Thank you!
I have just ran a 400ft sound film through my Elmo GS 800 for the first time in about 10 months and the sound was coming and going, what could be the potential problem...and advice would be much appreciated.
Step One with flaky ELMO sound is always to unplug the machine and work the various switches and jacks associated with sound a bunch of times and hopefully break oxides on the contacts. The jacks you work by plugging and unplugging a 3.5mm plug many times. You repeatedly slide the sliding switches and push and release the red recording key (this is the main culprit).
Quite often this fixes the problem: not always, but it's free and easy.
-So why not try it before you get out the soldering iron and the mallet and chain saw!
