I think I might have come up with a genuinely new topic concerning Blackhawk Films, ( Shorty could correct me if I am wrong😊). The story ... I have had in my collection a Blackhawk print of Gertie the Dinosaur, a film that is generally regarded by most to be the first really important animated film, by the celebrated cartoonist, Windsor McCay. There is a problem, however ... It's not Windsor McCay's Gertie! I always noticed that. I had seen Windsor McCay's Gertie many times previously, ( even have a DVD of all the collected Windsor McCay's original animated films), and this wasn't it. It was well animated, but it wasn't genuine. This was in fact, one of the earliest examples of plagiarism. John R Brays animation studio, one of the earliest animation studios to mass produce animation, made they're own Gertie in 1920, to cash in on Windsor McCay's Gertie ... THAT is the one released by Blackhawk Films. So now, on with the question. At some point, did either Blackhawk Films, or some other super 8 company, ever release Windsor McCay's "Gertie the Dinosaur"? One last thing, I honestly don't think that Blackhawk Films intentionally released the Bray film as the Windsor McCay film ... They probably didn't know. So folks, was Windsor McCay's Gertie ever released on Super 8?
