  • Where are the red dots on my P8 Eumig please?!

Hi all, I'm trying to get my dad's old Eumig P8 running properly again, and the posts here have been very useful, however I'm stuck on something so simple I'm almost embarrassed to ask about it, as I'm sure it's obvious...
It's running very slowly, even on the highest speed. The rubber belt seems to be fine, so I'm trying to lubricate now. I read here, other place online, and in the manual "oil the oiling points indicated by the arrows and marked on the projector with red dots" . I see no red dots! Even the arrows on the diagram confuse me: they are pointing at parts of the machine which don't seem to have any joints or holes at all. Thank you for putting me out of my misery..

GOOD DAY IAIN, Eumig p8 machines evolved over many years and part of this was lubrication which went from several points to nil.Unfortunately the instruction books did not allways keep pace.
Your machine is one of the later ones having no lubrication points, so rest easy and carry on projecting

    Regards Tom

Ah,thanks Tom! I did put a little oil on some of the small plastic cogs which were easy to reach, at the end of the drive shaft (?) yesterday, which seems to have helped speed things up, and hopefully hasn't caused any problems.
      Cheers, Iain

The thing with a Eumig P 8 is that the gear train can be sticky in old grease remnants. Yes, you can oil the fast moving parts but the rest remains dirty. It takes a complete disassembly for cleaning and relubing the parts of the mechanism that drive the sprocket drums.

The first P 8 are over 70 years old, the youngest 56.

Thanks Simon, I'll bear that in mind, though given my very poor DIY skills, that might be a job that's beyond me!

The reason why we technicians are here. I give a three years warranty on my work.
