  • LED conversion for Goko.

Hi all. New to the forum.
I am currently doing some film editing using my Goko editor/viewer before scanning. The picture on the frosted screen appears to be dull and grainy. Not like how I remember it all those years ago! It uses a pretty standard lamp, and I was thinking many of you movie buffs must have upgraded to an LED lamp. The editor in question is made by Goko but is a actually branded as Elmo.

    Hi!

Try to readjust the lamp so that it gives optimal brightness. You can at least rotate it. And on many Gokos you can even move it for- and backwards.

There are readily available options for upgrades to halogen, e.g. https://www.wittnercinetec.com/epage...ectID=21784428 (<— don’t look at the price without being seated ) or https://www-retro8-com.translate.goo..._x_tr_sch=http (currently sold out) or https://van-eck.net/product/viewer_l...en_uitvoering/ (currently sold out).

I have not seen any readily available led bulb. But there have been various diy conversions where the original socket has been removed and an led has been soldered directly to the cables.

Here's an instruction video for a projector. It’s pretty much the same for your Goko - except for that it only provides 6V and offers less space.

It's probably got a dirty glass cube (the thing that rotates above the light source). Mine had the exact same problem as yours even after I readjusted the lamp to put maximum brightness at the aperture. But when I disassembled that rotating light cube and cleaned that glass well the brightness was back again like a new machine. Now I keep a plastic bag on it when not in use to keep it clean because it was a real pain taking that mechanism apart and wouldn't want to do it again anytime soon!

And while you are inside there give those angled mirrors a good clean too as they're probably covered in dust by now which will also hinder the light somewhat.
