Great video, thanks. I wonder, after having read the title of this thread and having seen the presentation if an HTI lamp is brighter than a xenon one or it's just a way of speaking. You were lucky to have a fair good audience. And of course, you're very lucky to own that projector.Last edited by Dominique De Bast; April 19, 2025, 03:57 AM.

If only these projectors were more reliable and dependable! I have an ELMO GS1200HD, and it just gathers dust, as I cannot find anyone local to repair it or if it just needs a tune up, to do it. To just ship it for a tune up, I'd spend more than it would take to buy a good used Eumig that I know I can depend on. Don't get me wrong folks. I know that there are a lot of defenders of these ELMO's, and the design and build is enchanting, but I want reliability, not a lovely " custom car " that looks pretty in the garage, but I can't enjoy on the highway like I'd like to. ( I hope that analogy makes sense. ) 🙂

Unbelievable bright with such a large format.
I do not think it is usable for residential use, cause it probably will burn my eyes, so you need sunglasses.
Also, I think the cooling is a lot louder than my version of that Elmo GS1200MKIII
Thank you for sharingLast edited by Matthieu van der Sluis; April 19, 2025, 11:25 AM.

In 1974, while in college, I projected a super 8 film on a much larger screen in auditorium that could of sat at least 500 . maybe 1000 people. The 12v 100watt halogen lamp was sufficient for a bright enough picture. Afterwards, a professor came into the projection room and was astounded that I was rewinding a super 8 film. He thought he had been watching 16mm.

Back when I was about 18 (which was a long time ago, in a galaxy, etc...) I decided to put on a 'scope / stereo show for the film club I was in. Now these guys knew a thing or two and I was most definitely the noob regarding public shows.
It was a film making club but many had never seen 'scope / stereo super 8, so I keenly volunteered to do a whole evening of shorts and mini-features.
I arranged and set up a stereo system using a surround decoder, two amplifiers, five speakers and a mile of cable. Using my Elmo ST-1200HD with it's 15v 150w lamp and schneider f1.1 lens, I merrily went about masking off a scope screen of about 15ft width.
One of the experienced guys there, who I like a lot, came over and sort of whispered, "Do you think you'll have enough light?"
DOH!!! In my enthusiasm and naivety, I had not even considered this. I remember going into a kind of panic as the room filled and it was too late to back down or even test the image.
Lights went off, here we go...I got away with it...just. To be far everyone had a great evening, the sound was fantastic and the image was sharp and, well not too bad...quite surprising fortunately, but could have done with being a lot brighter.
Lesson learned...
An HTI conversion was the stuff of dreams and sci-fi back in 1989. If only I had a converted Delorean and was able to borrow Joachim's projector...

Joachim,
Thank you for the video! Your HTI GS gives off a remarkable amount of light and the picture is very impressive. Does the lamp housing get very hot? My Xenon GS underwent an HID conversion and I was happy to find that I can now be right next to the projector without getting uncomfortable from the heat.

Actually, I'm told the Beaulieu Studio HTI is brightest because of a faster pull down, and 2 bladed shutter. This is what a friend of mine wrote at the Super 8mm Facebook page. See below!
"Beaulieu halogen projector with two blades is brighter than Elmo GS1200 Xenon with its standard 3 blades, because the Elmo has a very slow pull down. The Beaulieu HTI 250 with 3 blades is even a little brighter than Fumeo 9145 with Xenon 500 lamp!!! (but run the xenon 500 lamp is cheaper than HTI250 per hour)".

I tried buying a Beaulieu Stereo Studio for a few year, but there was so much scam with those who put it for sale, that I forget about it.
I spoke with a poor fellow who lost his money on such a projector that I also bid on except I wanna pick it up myself and see it first.
Also, I cannot find someone who can fix a Beaulieu 708 when I buy one, but I know someon here who can keep my Elmo machines running and make it like new.
Even, when I could buy a Beaulieu 708 Studio Stereo, I also need to buy better Super8 films as well.
I can do it via my company, but I let it go.
I do wanna buy some of the newer films, just to see and show how beautiful Super8 can be, knowing that my Elmo's wont be as gentle with those films as a Beaulieu will be, but that's for my next generation to complaim about.
Now, I sell expensive Native 4K HDR Videoprojectors and I collected a lot of 4K fims, so I started thinking, ...
For me is watching Super8 like travelling back in time and the sound and feel of the Elmo projectors is what I grew up with.
So now, I see the 2 hobby's seperately and I enjoy both for what it meens to me.
With the 4K projectors now, you need that brightness even more to make HDR look real.

Thank you all for your nice feedback. Dominique: I was told that HTI is brighter than Xenon, because the light is more focused in the right direction.
Btw that is right, for sure, a 2-blade shutter is brighter than a 3. Theoretically this could be done with the Elmo, too. I wouldn’t do ist, since it would restrict me. And the machine is bright enough.
