B&H 253-R Takeup Reel not taking up

So i recently picked up a B&H 253-R film projector from a thrift store and i have been trying to get it to play the film "The Mummy". I wound the film all around through the pully system, behind the lens, under the unit, and slid the end into the takeup reel, this is my first time ever doing this so it is very possible i am doing something wrong, but when i turn on the motor and flip it to advance the film advances due to it being pulled by the pulley but the takeup reel does not move and when i rewind it the film it does not either. I have seen other models with holes near the top of the housing with a wire coming out that you would wrap around the reel's holding area but mine does not have that. I feel like i has something on the inside that needs replaced but im am a complete novice to this whole thing. If anyone has any tips please let me know.

You could have a broken belt on the inside that needs replacement. You'll have to get into the unit to check it out.
