Help With Kodak 425 Moviedeck Projector Repair

I have a Kodak 425 Moviedeck projector where a piece of film appears to have gotten jammed/stuck in what appears to be the aperture plate/shutter assembly.

Please see the attached photo below.



Is there anyway to easily remove the piece of film without disassembling the entire projector?

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

Hi Joe,

A Moviedeck was my very first projector (Christmas gift from my parents: 1979), and we are old friends.

-as fond as I am of these, access to the gate is not one of their strong points!

The two fake wood side panels (-like a 1960s station wagon!) are clipped in place and are hinged at the base of the machine. The right-hand one has side access to the gate assembly and you should be able to get in there with an artist's paint brush (-better ask the Artist, first ) or maybe the pointy end of an unused tywrap (the part you usually cut off and throw away.).

If you remove the lens, you also have limited access from the front. This is an awkward maneuver: I've always compared it to brushing your teeth through your ears! (-better poor access than none at all...)

If you gently fish around in there with the aid of a flashlight, maybe you can clear the gate. "Gentle" is the key word here: this is not a tractor-trailer or a bulldozer, but an 8mm projector and there are small moving parts in the gate that deserve our respect.

Canned Air might do the job, or at least help with the final cleanup.
