  • Super 8mm Xenon Lamps and their availability ?

Yesterday my son was bidding on an Elmo GS1200 Xenon lamp projector . However he did not win it .
Meantime does anyone know if Xenon lamps are readily available in the UK or from where ? If so what price would be asked for say the 250 Watt version or any other ? A google search was not a success .

    David,

Not readily available, however I believe Ugo Grassi had made arrangements to have a number of bulbs manufactured. You might try sending Ugo a PM.

      Hi David and Doug

i know that Superior Lamps in Pennsylvania you can order the Xenon bulb(s) that you need and I believe the ship overseas. I do know when I contacted him about the bulb that I needed. It takes about 3 to 4 weeks for them to make it cause they make them per order if they don’t have them in stock Here is their information. Good luck.

I hope there is no mercury in those xenon lamps, cause from 2026 it cannot be sold anymore.
That's why I only sell laserbased videoprojectors now.
Companies wanted to get rid of the lampbased projecrors in a hurry.

        Some xenon lamps use mercury

Matthieu raises a subject that cannot go ignored. Very soon we won't be able to replace lamps using mercury. Which as well as many xenon lamps for film projectors is a lot of video projectors.

We seem to have literally gotten away with the discouragement of halogen bulbs as many are used in legacy medical equipment, so for now at least out standard super 8 lamps are safe.

Anyone expecting to replace a video projector lamp in 2 or 3 years may be in for a shock.

On a plus note, new video projectors with laser lamps are a total win, win. Long life, less power and better performance.

I know this may feel a little off topic, but I do think we need to think ahead regarding lamps in many of our treasured super 8 projectors.

Things 'aint wot they used to be!
