  • Disney ‘Silly Symphonies’ on Super 8

I recently purchased the book Walt Disney’s Silly Symphonies’ A Companion to the Classic series’ and wondered how many were actually released on Super 8. I know Derann released quite a few,

    I own,

    The Skeleton Dance 1929
    Flowers and Trees. 1932
    Santa’s Workshop. 1932
    The Night Before Christmas 1933
    Little Hiawatha. 1937
    The Old Mill 1937
    Wynken, Blynken and Nod 1938
    Mother Goose Goes Hollywood 1938
    The Ugly Duckling 1939

These are all Derann releases with the exception of The Ugly Duckling, which is a Walt Disney Home Movie.

I imagine the Three Little Pigs, Lullaby Land, Grasshopper and the Ants, The Tortoise and the Hare, Water Babies, Music Land, would have been released. Does anyone know what was released? Click image for larger version

As well as the above. These titles were released. I would suspect some had small print runs

Three Little Pigs The Old Mill Tortose & the Hare Disney & Derann.

I only came across Flying Mouse and Elmer the Elephant very recently. I have a feeling sequel to Three Little Pigs. The Big Bad Wolf was released the 2nd sequel The Little Wolves definitely was.

      Derann only

      Three Little Wolves
      Flying Mouse
      Merbabies
      Farmyard Symphony
      Broken Toys
      Elmer the Elephant
      Who Killed Cock Robin
      Three Blind Mouseketeers
      Woodland Cafe
      Three Orphan Kittens

      Classic released

Just Dogs black & white sound

I have cookie carnival as well. My wife loves it. "The Old Mill" is an odd bird of a print. It appears that the negative sent by the Disney studio to Derann was a composite of two sources. Approximately a minute into the short, (after the establishing shot of the bluebirds), when it cuts to the close up of the bluebirds, it switches for the rest of the print to a much more bluish print. The original WDHM version, had the same negative from beginning to end, though not printed on LPP.
