  • Piccolo German History film

I've just had in a Piccolo print of "Vom Kaiserreich zur Republik Das Kaiserreich Part 1" which my Google translated it as "From the Empire to the Republic", of course it has a German track, but I was wondering if any German collectors could tell me if it's rare or not, the B/W print and sound is fine B+/B, there are some marks printed through from the source material, which is very old to begin with, its on a 400' reel (about 300-310 ft), it comes in its Original Gatefold box, and it looks to be part one of a 2 part film, the second part covers WW1 (google translation again) which I assumed you ordered from Piccolo if interested. Any information would help me decide what to do with it.

    Hi!

The translation is correct - the two parts are showing historical material from the last pre-WW1 years of the „German Empire“ until the foundation of the „Weimar Republic“ at the end of WW1.

The two parts have only been available in B&W with sound. AFAIK piccolo was using real b&w printstock, so there’s no risk of Kodak’s reddishness.

piccolo was famous for putting only 110m of film onto a 120m-reel (110m=360ft; 120m=400ft) and only stating the reel’s size. No clue whether your „part 1“ with its only 90-95m is lacking some scenes or whether piccolo was „cheating“ even more in this case.

I doubt that the two parts sold very well (like all other documentaries). So it might be „more rare“ than other piccolo-Prints. Nevertheless, parts 1+2 are currently available on eBay Germany:

BTW: The two parts have been available from 1976 on:

(scroll to the page with Django and Goofy on it - there, it’s listed as novelty in the lower left corner).

        Dear Joerg,

Many thanks for the quick reply, I'll list it on my next lists and see how it goes, I don't really have an idea what to list it for though!
