The hypothetical question is this.......

If films had been released on super 8, be it full length or 400' extracts, to the extent that they have been released on dvd, would the super 8 hobby have been as exciting as it has been and still is ?

Yes, but the cost would have still caused it to die. Look at the battle of VHS vs Beta? Still, literally every other week, I am still surprised to hear what has actually made it onto Super 8, features I would have never expected to find on Super 8, be it optical sound or magnetic sound! It all came down to cost however, but as is often the case, people surrendered the better, watching a feature on the big screen, for a video image, on an itty bitty screen, cuz it's cheaper!🤬

Also storage space. you can keep many more films on video sytems (VHS,beta, DVD) than super 8 and not have trouble with your wife over "clutter"!

So a lack of choice on super 8 contributed to a lower divorce rate ? Hmm! Not looked at it from that angle before !
