Hi not been on here for sometime my problem is I've just got out my Elmo GS1200 and the rew and fwd spindles have stopped moving this started intermittently at first now nothing.
I have tested both motors and there both fine and even rewind works any ideas?
I had the same problem and tried to repare the motor, using a tutorial from here.
But the problem was electrical in the print.
I brought my GS1200 to a electrician in Arcen (Limburg NL) who does Elmo projectors.
He cleaned the projector and replaced the relays and other electric stuff for modern electronics and made my projector like new, including the recordings.
I wrote about it in 2 Topics here somewhere.
I have a machine that once in a while will do the stop and go when it wants kind of trash, just enough to tick you off during a reel
I opened the door cover, and carefully sprayed, electronic tuner cleaner on the top of the piano, keyboard button control, use a flashlight and look at the module inside underneath the exciter bulb. If you see dust on it, use tuner cleaner to give it a bath just be careful not too much.
Then push the projector up in an angle, holding the handle on top and now spray some tutor cleaner underneath up inside the still reverse stop and forward buttons. There are springs up in there that make them bouncy if the springs are dry, they need to be lubricated not too heavy of a spray. Just be careful.
That's a good place to start, and it only takes a few minutes to do
Spray the tuner cleaner with the projector unplugged from power supply let it sit for about 10 minutes so Residue Cleaner spray Can evaporate
After 10 minutes, give it a try with power and without film. If this test is successful, then use a test reel of film for actual autoload and projection
This will not cause any harm, but if it does not solve the problem, then you need to go to the technician
I started to open the back motor and cleaned the dirt inside, but clumsy me could not put it together anymore.
That repairman could, but he told me, that did not fix the problem.
Funny thing,... He wanted to buy my GS1200Mkiii.
But as long I have him to repair and keep my Elmo's running, I will never sell.
He does have a huge collection of Derran full feature films, so he really needs one tho.
I have changed the original Motors to some new ones wich I found on Ebay.
They come from China and they are not very expensive. And they worked very good.
I have bought some new Gears from Van Eck and drilled them up to 5mm Diameter.
It is not very easy to fit this Motors on the original Elmo Gearbox but it is possible.
Below are some Pictures of my Modification.
So wow.
Even that can be solved.
But the hours spend, will that be affordable for a customer?
Now you have done this once, will the next time easier and quicker?
