  • Goko RM-5000 Mirrors Replacement?

I’ve just ordered new belts for my Goko RM-5000 viewer / recording editor and whilst it has never had the best image (the main mirror has always had a tarnish mark on it since i bought it) I noticed with the back cover off that one of the smaller mirrors also has tarnished.

There are 4 mirrors in total, non of which look great, so I wondered if anyone had ever attempted replacing them?

Not sure where I’d source new mirrors or how to remove them (they seem glued in place), but thought I’d see if anyone else had tried such a thing…?!

Just to answer my own question! And for anyone else that wants to have a go...yes, it is fairly easy to replace the mirrors. They are held in place with double sided tape and can be gently eased away. The main large mirror was totally gone and almost transparent. A £10.00 locker mirror from Amazon replaced it and although much larger (150mm wide as opposed to the original 100mm wide), there is enough room to fit it.

The two small mirrors have been replaced with 2cm x 2cm mirror tiles. Box of 100, again £10.00 from Amazon. One of the originals had developed a nasty tarnished mark right in the centre. Again, these replacements are not an exact size match but they work just fine.

There is another mirror, but this one seems ok for now, but I will look at finding a cheap replacement.

A brighter halogen bulb is on the way from Van Eck, along with a new belt set, so hopefully a fully restored Goko soon.

These mirrors don't ever get touched apart from the odd wipe when its been apart before for a new belt, so I can't imagine I'm the only one to suffer from aged, tarnished mirrors in the Goko; it is about 45 years old...(I assume the stereo RM-8008 is the same mirror arrangement?)

I'll try to post some pictures if anyone is interested.

I love the Goko; I've re-recoded many trailers and shorts using wild sync, but with patience you can achieve sync for several minutes and the sound quality is superb, crystal clear and no wow.
