Seeking help with respooling film

Hello!

I recently won an auction on eBay for an 8mm copy of Nosferatu. The listing shows the movie is mounted on a 1600' reel, but my projector only supports up to 600' reels. Maybe it was silly to purchase it knowing this, but I couldn't pass it up as I'm a big fan.

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out how to put the movie onto smaller reels, or if there is some paid service I could use to accomplish this. Any information/input would be greatly appreciated!

I’m guessing the film was on 4 400ft reels when originally released if you have access to a 8mm editor look for the splices where it was joined you’ll need 4 400 ft reels handy normally you’d need another 1600 foot tell to get to the end and start rewinding it till you find a splices separate it then take the end on the next reel and do the same thing but if you do t have another 1600 ft reel use your 600 ft reel and do 1/4 of the film at a time eventually you’ll have to go back and splice some leader on to the ends/ beginning of each reel.
