I‘m not Osi, but you can simply use Alberto’s email address that is mentioned here:

To come back to the original topic:
The majority of home movies haven’t faded or shifted the colors by now. So there’s nearly no need to do such a correction on your own.
And you normally don’t transfer the digests or other prints as they are nearly all readily available on DVD/Blu-ray or streaming.

I‘m using Magix Video for such corrections when needed.
Several users on a German forum have switched to the free version of DaVinci Resolve. They claim that the results are better as you have more control. But they also say that it has a steep learning curve.

I have installed an app called „FilmCap“ on my smartphone. It has got some predefined filters and some manual filters that -according to the manual- can be used to fix e.g. red prints while capturing. But I have only used it once so far. Hence I cannot say whether it’s working or not.

When the movie is completely red (like the example below), then only AI can help.
(Depending on the AI program, you have to desaturate the video (=turn it into black and white), before using it in the AI tool.)

That‘s the best you can do in 5min on a smartphone:

These are only images as the AI tools for videos are not free (and the free ones have a lot of limitations regarding file size, file format and video lengths that don’t match my sample video).

With Magix Video or DaVinci Resolve you can definitely produce better results than the „5min“ example. But this movie was sooooo red that only an AI can guess and incorporate some colors. (And there are some definite errors in the AI version.)

Two tests with the free version of VikPea (and hence limited to 5s):

In reference to Doug's earlier post, I guess it could be interpreted as red . I was considering buying a color packaged print on Ebay, which the seller has not seen and was considering purchasing (knowing that it could be a red fade print) . This is a travelogue which no DVD exists of.

If this is a rare shoot, buy it. We live in the AI technology now. AI can "interpret" the available image rather than we have nothing to show. Today 5 second is free. We never knew in the future, could be 15 minutes free.

Now we are just entering AI vers 5. Even vers 4 has impressed me so much.

                    Please answer 2 simple questions:
1 What is the app you using?
2 Have you corrected ONE FRAME or a whole film?
                    No reply from Winbert...🤔

This is impressive. I'm guessing that like upscaling with Topaz you will require "a lot of PC" to process any sizeable duration and at times as you say, there will be some obvious errors.

From a purely commercial side of domestic Telecine there is a time/cost factor and most clients are happy to see, long since gone relations, and if you can get the sky blue and the grass green from a red film, with simple real time CC, at no extra cost that is a bonus.
