  • Elmo ST-600 motor issue

I picked up a NOS Elmo ST-600 on eBay. A beautiful machine and definitely new old stock. I put on new belts, lubed her up, and she purred like a kitten for several minutes...probably the quietest one I've ever heard. I did not run any film at this point, but the amp had a nice low hum when turned up all the way. I did not even have to fiddle with knobs and switches to get the sound going. I turned her over face down down put another drop of oil on a shaft.

I set the projector back upright and plugged in the power cable again (the main switch was set to off). A small pop occurred and a small spark was seen on the back board where the two fuses are. I turned on the main switch and had a lamp but no motor. I have checked all three fuses and they are good. I have replaced the speed control board with known good one and still no motor. I changed the cap on the back fuse board. Nothing has helped. The amp still works but the sound now motorboats when the volume control is turned past halfway. I have thought about things and really don't think I shorted anything when doing my maintenance. It makes me sick as this was like a projector out of a time machine....perfect. Does anybody have any thoughts here? Thanks.

Hi John, check your fuses. And check the motor capacitor. For leaks. And if you heard a pop noise than it could be a bad capacitor.
