  • Ektasound 265 hum instead of sound.

I'm sorry, it probably looks bad if I only write in if I have a problem. And I should likely have shame for using one of these, but it was my first sound 8mm projector. It has run film smoothly and I haven't seen it put a scratch on any of my films. I just don't like that it has a closed film path. Which is why I had to disassemble it to extract a strip of bunched up film. When I had it open, there was a small ball with wire wrapped around it and what looked like a plug at the end of it. I don't remember it falling out or becoming detached. So I was wondering if anyone knew enough about these to say how it's supposed to go back on. I looked all over inside and can't seem to detect if it gets plugged in somewhere or how it should be oriented. When I run it, it just has a loud hum. Manipulating the plug has an effect on modifying the hum, so I think I'm on the right track somewhere. If no one knows, can I be pointed in the direction of finding an internal manual that might address this ? I have tried tracking info down for this and my next question without any luck. Thank you for your consideration.

    Hi Tim,

That sounds like a Janice Glesser question: my Moviedeck is silent.

-but maybe if you put up a picture (or a couple of them) it would be easier to guess what's up?

Of course, you don't have to do a picture if you can describe it in text. (At the current rate of exchange, a picture is worth a thousand words!)

Your „ball with wire“ could be a current transformer. Attached is a ring shaped version that is shrink-wrapped in some foil/tape. But they are also available in „not wrapped“.

It sounds like it is a ferrite bobine. All Eumig sound projectors have them fitted around the soundhead area. They remove interference from the motor.

Often the motor and transfomer in Eumigs was one and the same.

ID:	120770This is the item in question. It seems like it should plug in somewhere, but I guess I'm too blind to see where. All the plugs on the main board are plugged in properly. This is in the area of the soundhead so I think I'm on the right track. But I don't know how to get all the way home from here. Thanks again for looking.

              Tim,

That has a strong "not factory original" vibe to it. It looks like a commercial style connector that's normally meant to plug onto a printed circuit board and yet it seems to have wires coming out both ends. It looks like the far side has a loop that has both ends within the connector shell. (-or maybe I'm interpreting the photo incorrectly.)

Can you get in there closer and sharper?

It does look to be wiring from the soundhead: I think I see a hum-bucking coil there. If this connector is supposed to be going somewhere, I'd imagine it would be some kind of sound board, so its audio signal could be amplified and then sent out to a speaker.
