  • Keystone K108 ejecting film

Hi, this is my first time posting on the new forum. My k108 keeps throwing film off the top reel. The spindle turns too fast. Any ideas on the cause? https://youtu.be/V6QDAKBJMKo

The front reel turns when it shouldn't. I can think of only 2 reasons.
    - There should be some sort of one-way clutch mechanism on the feed reel arm. That should engage ONLY when in reverse/rewind. The gunk/gum from hardened lubricant simply seized it up in "always engage" position - sort of. A through cleanup&re-lubrication should help.
    - Not so sure, but the reel belt might have to be half-turn twisted to have some "back tension" applied to the feed reel to prevent over-spin like this.

More pictures might help of course.

Thank you! I started taking the covers off the back so I could access the rewind mech, but the main covers over the motor will not come off for me. It seems everything is being held in place by a single belt that I cannot reach. Does anyone have a Keystone service manual?

Not sure if this is of any help but I found an old thread from 2013. Janice Glesser mentions having a service manual for the 109 model. Maybe she could send this to you. Both models look similar.

Thanks. I will try to contact them. I ran some mineral spirits through the mechanism and then some light oil, but it did not have any effect. Here is another video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rDHSlWPMxU

At least that rules out my second reason , no reel belts to half-twist.
With the reel arm already remover it's a good chance to take a closer look of its action. Inspecting for part that moves when it shouldn't, for example. Let's see what we'll find out then.

Taking a closer look, I think I've got some idea.
The outer gear train is probably used for rewinding, while the inner belt is for reverse projection.
When forward the belt's tightness should provide some backtension, and does not turn. The one-way clutch at the drive pulley should engage only on reverse. But in this case the one-way clutch thingy might got sticky, and ALWAYS in engaged position.

All in all this is only my spetaculation, the only way to find out is to totally disassembly it.

Hey, you were able to get that Keystone off of the carrying case. I thought it was permanently attached to it?
