Hello all. I have a Canon 814 xl-s super 8 cine camera that I simply cannot get to work. As such are there any specialists in the UK capable of offering a repair. There used to be a chap in Bath, but I can't remember his details. That would have been good for me as I'm in Bristol, a view miles away.

Hello Mark. I've been working on a Cano-Worms 514 XL-S camera and after hard labour got that going fully then much rejoicing on the hill tops took place.
All Canon electronic cine cameras are hard work and the 814XL-S is a tricky one to work on if memory serves me right as before you get near anything you have several points to unsolder. It is however years since I helped out someone with a repair but inside they are pretty much solidly packed out I can at least remember but as I say it was a very long time ago..
Now then, you don't elaborate what the fault symptoms are so a bit tricky to come up with a few pointers. But if its completely dead I'm sure you will have cleaned all contacts for power? If its still dead you may have missed cleaning the external power socket with has a make a break contact.
If the contact has oxidised you will have zero power and what appears to be a dead unit as it wont see a feed from the batteries.

Sendean Cameras, a long-established business in London, specialises in the repair of cameras and lenses, and that includes 8mm and 16mm. I haven't personally used their services but they seem to have a good reputation.Comment
