Agfa Automatic Tape Splicer

Following the recent high praise of the Agra F8 S automatic Klebepresse I have just bought one. It's in excellent condition, fully boxed with instructions and two lots of the original tape splices.

I have a question to users of this unit.

I see that the red end is 1mm less in length than the blue end. Is this to allow clearance of a magnetic sound track? The fully explicit instructions make no mention of joining sound films. Just to place the film over the pins without reference to emulsion down, or up.

If you look at 2 in your instructions, you will see on the splicer itself a "we man symbol" place your image on your films to match that direction. ie top of the film frame to your right. The splice wont cover your main stripe, only a balance if you have one.

Yes, I did see the symbol.
However, the instructions don't make any mention that this refers to a join on sound film.
