I just wanted to say thank you for this post, I tried licking first... nice one guys. Then I tried Lee Mannering's post about the Belt Dressing, available at any Auto parts store, I got mine for $10 and it worked. However now instead of going at 24fps and halting completely, its going much slower consistently, at about half the frame rate I imagine, any reason do you think?

My guess would be that the drive is slipping when in contact with the clutch plates.
Never tried Lee's potion but respect his experience.
      TRY...
Mains off, then clean the brass drive bush with meths.
Mains back on and try fwd and reverse..Any difference ?
Also try moving the speed adjustor up and down. Any difference ?

FWIW I gently clean the clutch plates with a very fine abrasive cloth and then meths..
Sometimes the motor position needs adjusting but that is a LAST RESORT and can be a PIA to get right.

You could try the procedure one more time. Here's how I treated my Eumig Mark S 709. I first cleaned both discs with Q Tips dipped in alcohol. I wiped them several times, with back and forth motions. I then applied a heavy coat of Automotive belt dressing. I went around the discs several more times with the dressing. I let it sit overnight, and then reapplied another layer of belt dressing the next day. That was 3 years ago, and I haven't had to do it again. Now granted, my 709 was basically new in the box when I purchased it back then. The rubber looked very clean, but you never know it's service life. The belt dressing really seems to recondition the rubber to like new condition. The rubber on these needs to be soft and pliable, in order for the motor drive shaft to spin properly against the rubber in forward or reverse.

Thanks for the advice everyone, Okay I've tried reapplying it again.

Cue tips with isopropyl-alcohol - dry, then cue-tips dipped in a cup of belt dressing, at least 3 times round. Will wait till tomorrow, to dry then reapply. Shane C. Collins how long should I wait after the second coat, Another day ?

One thing also worth mentioning here is the need to run your projector periodically after the application of the belt dressing. The Eumig drive discs need periodic running to keep working properly, so get your projector out every 3 months or so and just run it for an hour or so (with or without film) to keep that rubber soft. If you are regularly using your Eumig you will have no further problems with the drive disc.

No need to wait after the second coat. You can use the projector right after applying the belt dressing. I just waited a bit after the second coat for precautionary reasons.

Hey Shane C. Collins, I'm afraid that made it worse, its now crawling along at single digit fps when set on 24. When I switch it down to half way it speeds up to the low 10s in fps. David Strelitz when you say "brass drive bush with meths" is that the spinning brass disk at the top as pictured?

** EDIT WOW> David, the meth on the brass bush did it. the speed increase was akin to a helicopter taking off. I'm sure both of your advice helped tremendously thank you!

I'm happy to hear your machine is running up to speed again. What I should have mentioned, in my first post, is cleaning everything in and around those discs. Generally speaking, you can clean one thing, to only find out later another area was dirty and effects speed, etc. When I cleaned my Eumig 709, I took the motor out, cleaned it, and installed new motor mounts. The plastic mounts crumbled, and as a result the motor would not drive the discs. Taking the motor out allowed me the chance to really clean the "drive" surfaces, etc. Then I followed this with lubing the drive shaft at the brass fittings. I also applied grease to the plastic drive gears. One other area you can oil is the shaft the motor ball rides on. But, you must use caution not to over do it, and get oil on the discs, and the ball surface area. I'm including a photo below, with a white arrow, showing the shaft that can be oiled. Something like 3 in 1 or even sewing machine oil will work for this shaft. Oiling the shaft allows the ball to freely travel up and down as you select 18 or 24 fps.

If all is now working, leave we'll alone. As I mentioned in my earlier post, adjusting the motor position (or removing it) is a last resort and it would seem unnecessary.
