  • Barrel diameter of Bolex Paillard Hi-fi 1:1.3 F=20mm Lens

Does anyone know what the diameter of the barrel of the Bolex Paillard Hi-fi 1:1.3 F=20mm lens is?
And also, does this lens come in shorter versions (only fixed length; I'm not interested in the zoom version).

Rob, the super 8 lens size is 28mm, or 25 mm for standard 8. That lens you mention was also available in 15 mm focal length.Superb lenses both of them.

Super 8mm - I use this lens on my Elmo 16 CL projector with an adapter sleeve. Excellent lens.

        That's great, thanks both!
I need a lens with a 25mm barrel, so will look for the R8 one. Is there any way you can see (from just looking at the lens) whether the lens is intended for the S8 projector or for the R8 projector?

Also Janice, I had no luck with the Xenovaron lens in the adapter sleeve for the Elmo 16CL. I couldn't get the lens close enough to the gate. Do you not get any vignetting with this lens? Looks like I have to chase down both lenses then!

The 25 mm lens I have and measured is from a bolex 18/5 standard 8 .When I tried this in a sleeve with super 8,there was cut off at the corners of the picture. So I would think a 25mm barrel not big enough for super8.

Rob Koeling If you are planning to use the lens in the 16CL adapter I recommended...you will have to use the 28mm from the Bolex 18/5 Super 8mm projector. The 25mm is too small and will vignette. I have actually been using the 16.5 - 30 zoom lens in 16CL, but I tonight tried the 20mm...no vignetting.

              Thanks again!
The reason I was asking about the diameter of this lens is not for the 16CL. I need a lens for a different (9.5mm) projector. The one in there is slow (1.6) and long (1.5"). That machine can not accommodate a lens with a barrel of more than 25mm. So, the version of this lens for the R8 projector is what I am really after! Sellers on marketplaces are not always willing to measure their items, so I was thinking if there is a way of telling whether the lens is for the S8 projector or for the R8 projector (just by looking at the lens), than that would be something I can ask a prospective seller. If not, I'll just take a shot!

Janice Glesser I don't really need an extra lens for the 16CL. I have the 35-65mm zoom lens, the 35mm, the 50mm and a Schneider 25mm lens in a dedicated (custom made) sleeve. With a throw of 4.5 meters in my front room, the 25mm lens gives a great picture. I ordered the same adapter that you have out of curiosity. I was hoping I could make it work with the Xenovaron (which is a great lens), but no luck so far. My nerdy side would like to see the adapter put to use. The pictures you shared above are very neat and convinced me to buy that lens that was offered regardless of the barrel size! After I receive it, I will know if I still need to chase a 25mm or a 28mm barrel version!.
