  • Auctions on For Sale/Wanted Category

I have noticed many posts as of late for Ebay Auctions showing up on the “For Sale/Wanted” category. Many times not by the sellers themselves.
In the past when I would look I would see a title and found that if the seller was a member here there was a possibility to contact that person to handle it off of Ebay thus saving everyone a little bit of money. Ebay fees are around 17% now for film sales.
But since the Ebay auctions are not usually from the sellers themselves it seems like a PSA for only a few titles and it seems to clutter up the board a bit. Do you think there should be another Category called Ebay watch? I would prefer one. Any suggestions/ideas?

If someone had shown an interest in buying the film referred to it would make sense to have it in that section. Otherwise I'm not so sure.

As eBay sellers have a "made-up" name it doesn't seem possible to know if such a seller is a member of this Forum.

That's one of the main reasons why I rarely list my eBay items on here. 1. Listing my eBay sales on here just means I'll have lots of "watches", but it doesn't end up in sales. 2. Nearly any time that I get a request to sell the item to a fellow forum member, they nearly, almost inevitably, back out of the sale, which has always mystified me, as, shipping is always less directly from me than thru eBay, and I am tired of being royally pissed off by this, so I don't usually bother to put many of my eBay items up here and rarely put up anything else, as, well, why deal with the frustration. I don't think there's really a need for a seperate eBay category. Sales are sales.

The main reason I was thinking about this was to de-clutter the sale section from all the Ebay posts when the seller isn't even on here. We all know how to search Ebay so I don't see the reason for putting up films for sale there unless its your own. I suppose I will just ignore that forum in most cases. I noticed on a 16mm forum they have it set up this way and it works well there.

Sorry Alan , but I have to agree with Osi .
I've had the same experiences he has had with Forum members .
I've even bought from Forum members too . 90% of the time the films were just as described and I was very pleased . But the other 10% was NOT as described and I would not have bought from that member , had they given a full description of the film's defects .
And I've gotten screwed by the 16mm Forum members and their sales too . Their attitudes and selling practices are WORSE than eBay !!
Yes so don't beat a dead horse and just accept " sales as sales " on this forum .

Best film we ever got off the bay was my 16mm low fade of True Lies a thing of beauty and virtually zero lines which will never leaved my hands. Yes fingers burnt many times as well and it is a minefield most certainly sad to say. I miss the days of the printed advertisements with a phone number you could call to to chat over what was on offer and in the UK Exchange and Mart mart was central for 8mm back in el day and those were pre Derann main steam days as well.
Yes I would like to see honesty return to film sales wherever they are as gone are the wholesome sales we had back then. In the end the bay will be the overall winners not the dubious sellers although they may believe they have the last word.

If we love this thing called film we will be honest, uphold and protect it!

I would disagree in one fashion, however, with you Alan. There are times when, no matter how well I try to search eBay, there are items that for some odd reason, are never shown by eBay when I do my searches, and, for some odd reason, they'll show up here on the good ole 8mm forum, so I am indebted to those who list them, whether they are the sellers or not.

Very interesting responses to Alan's suggestion. My preference is not to create an additional sub-forum, however may I suggest that all eBay film listings in the sale sections start with the words "On eBay:" followed by the film's title. The topic author should then mention in the body of the post if the film belongs to them or not. Then at the very least, prospective buyers could tell at a glance which listings are Forum based as opposed to eBay listings.
I just tried this out to see what it looks like in the 8mm films for sale section.
