I've got a Standard 8 print of the feature "Revenge of the Vampire" and I was asked for more info, but I'm having little luck online finding any, I believe Mountain Films brought it out here in the U.K. , and it looks like a dubbed film, anymore info anyone can give would be a great help!

I'm not sure, I know for certain it's dubbed, when I ran it I wasn't really looking to see who was in it, as I was looking more for the condition of the film as I thought it would be easy to find on the internet, I suppose I'll have to un-pack the dual guage and have a look, but I'm sure someone on the forum has got the same print as it was issued on super and standard 8, so I'll wait and see what others turn up first.

Hi Barry,
this was in fact an early Derann release of a classic Italian horror film starring Barbara Steele and directed by Mario Bava.
I think the Std 8 print was longer as opposed to the 4 reel Super 8 version.
This version was dubbed into English from the Italian language version.
Not a bad print from what I recall.
Cheers!

Yes it certainly is..I’ve seen a few good Tom & Jerry Walton titles still holding there colour well too

Black Sunday is the one were Barbara Steele has bad ache from a face mask. John Richardson (Tumak) from One Million Years BC also features in the cast. I believe there are alternate versions of the film about as AIP were involved with the financing and re edited the film. Watching the Kino Blu ray/ DVD is like watching a completely different film. Isn’t a bad movie much better than the Mountain Films dubbed Italian/Mexican vampire release Creatures of Evil 4x400 black and white sound bought new from Lees Cameras £32.95 😂😂
No sign of Robert Shaw and the Goodyear blimp.

Mask of Satan is European release 87/minutes Jolly Films, Black Sunday is the US American international release at 83 minutes. Dialogue is toned down, mask impaling not shown ,music soundtrack completely changed and I think footage of Barbara’s heaving bosoms is also cut shame 🙁 Revenge of Vampire is yet another title which is based on the European release. I think it was produced to emulate the financial success of Hammer’s Dracula. Doesn’t quite ring the bell but it does have its moments. Originally planned for colour but Barbara aging makeup wouldn’t work in colour and Mario Bavo wanted black and white. Allegedly produced for $40,000 to $60,000 cost Bavo sold the US rights and film to American International for $100,000 who rebuilt it for the US teen market. Banned from a cinema release in U.K. until 1968.
The mask scene was achieved with tomato ketchup and rice to emulate blood and maggots.
Super 8 release is surprisingly good print. Shame about the dubbing. Apparently the cast British and Italian spoke in French and then were dubbed. Arrow Kino have produced Blu Ray with DVD which has both versions which is fun to run to watch and switch versions to see the changes.
I used to get Black Sabbath mixed up with this title. I don’t know whether the Bavo trilogy with Boris Karloff ever saw a 8mm release.

Have the Italian print La maschera del demonio purchased in a job lot enjoying these dubbed films.
Have 16mm foreign feature remake of The Exorcist somewhere as well. All these are interesting little treats. Italians had many features available but 99% are pink or red now.
Interesting reading
