Hello all,
This COVID-19 lockdown has brought a positive impact to my film library. I have been collecting 8mm film since 1984 when my father brought me home a Sankyo 501 projector for showing our family home movies. Since then I was interested with packed-films until now. I do remember my first reels were 2 * 400', i.e MASH and Tora! Tora! Tora which I still keep them to date. They were bought from my high school friend for roughly $15/ea.
.
In that year, world has shifted to video resulting 8mm films were hardly found in the market. Day by day, year by year I accumulate my collection through many flea markets in Indonesia. Since they were stored in not-so-proper way, all of them had gone faded. I remember once I found a brand new Universal 8 of Thoroughly Modern Millie in a Photo Store and straight away buying that film although it was not my cup of tea. I still kept the invoice. I was thinking that I would get a colorful film but sadly it was clean but reddish.
My peak time of collection was between 2002-2013 when I was posted abroad in Fiji and Canada. Ebay was a good facilitator to increase my collection since at that time films were sold rather low price compared today. I joined with this forum in 2003 when it was still under the old name and there I knew LPP print for low fade and AGFA stock would retain most colors. I tried to get some LPP prints since I really wanted to see how the beautiful color of super 8mm. I finally got some and was satisfied with them.
Fast forward to today, now I know that AGFA would also fade and majority of my AGFA prints have gone purplish now as well as the acetate based films would got vinegar syndrome easily if they are not stored properly, especially in this hot and humid country like Indonesia.
For all these years, almost 36 years, I already have more than a thousand reels, I sold some of them because of multiple titles. I always intended to list them in an Excel spread sheet but time was always tight for me. However for these last two months, my place was under lockdown situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic and listing my films were my daily works (beside of my work from home routine of course).
I now know that I still have 800sh titles (or 1000 reels more since many are two/three reelers or more). Since this was a big job for me, allow me at this time showing off my entire collection as my long list below ... enjoy!
ps: this is a shortened list because in the original sheet I kept the info about the film stock, the current color condition, type of case, etc, etc
pss: photos of my collection are posted on the last post.
psss: Films in this list are not for sale.
