fitting a new wire to the recording button connection to the head on Eumig 824

Help. I am attempting to fit a new wire that connects the recording button to the on/off of the recording head on a Eumig 824. It seems incredibly fiddly and I wondered if anyone has any tips to help me. Any ideas on the best wire to use would be appreciated. Thanks Tim

Spring wire. Not sure on gauge.

It's like that stuff they use to operate bicycle brakes but a smaller guage. Also the mechanism used to hold the cable at both ends must be there or you will not be able to get the system to work...the trigger wire slides inside the outter metal jacket but the jacket has to be fixed at both ends firmly or the inner trigger wire will not move the recording switch into position.
