Friday night is Movie Night here. Last week it was 16mm, Super-8 and Super-8 'scope. This week I decided I wanted some floor space back so I gave the Pageant (and its table) the night off.
There's a sequence: Power up the surge protector where the projectors and the mixer plug in, then power up the amp with the interface box. -get this backwards and I have a powerful reminder what a ground loop I really have!
Then I walk up to the mixer and give each channel's level control a twist. At what would normally be very high volume if there was a film running, I'm supposed to hear some projector hum.
-but tonight on the right hand Elmo I got a shriek that would have deafened dogs for half a mile if the windows were open!
Did I panic?
-Naaah!
I just remembered what we've been repeating here for 16 years now, and I worked the record key about 10 times and after that I was de-shrieked!
You can't fight tradition!
(-especially in December!)
