  • Tentative Eumig Serial List with Dates!

Eumig Museum ( eumig.at ) has been a great source of information and all those associated very helpful and generous. Erik and Werner especially so.

There is a list of serials with devices and quantities, along with dates. But it's possibly incomplete. If you have an odd or limited Eumig manufactured or branded device, would you post a picture and serial number of that device along with any information you have, as it may help fill holes in the data.

For now, here is a list of serials with years produced for all devices branded Eumig or other. This includes none cine devices such as laser equipment. The list also includes devices manufacture by companies other than Eumig on their behalf and branded Eumig.

    165410 to 240109 1955 (74,700 units)
    240110 to 330900 1956
    330901 to 501700 1957
    501701 to 621700 1958
    621701 to 770579 1959
    770580 to 917179 1960
    917180 to 1051679 1961
    1051680 to 1249569 1962
    1249570 to 1489169 1963
    1489170 to 1689169 1964
    1689170 to 1879174 1965
    1879175 to 2056675 1966
    2056676 to 2285679 1967
    2285680 to 2499679 1968
    2499680 to 2771679 1969
    2771680 to 3098960 1970
    3098961 to 3576580 1971
    3576581 to 4011615 1972
    4011616 to 4475845 1973
    4475846 to 5011558 1974 (535,713 units)
    5011559 to 5622282 1975
    5622283 to 6448320 1976 (829,038 units)
    6448321 to 6968686 1977
    6968687 to 7686633 1978
    7686634 to 8203290 1979
    8203291 to 8528634 1980
    8528635 to 8551294 1981 (22,660 units)

For now, this should help date your device.

Did they have one long lit of serial numbers starting at say 0 and then everytime they produced any item its serial number came from this list source or did each model / range have its own seperate list?

Nick. This list starts at 1955. Eumig in 1919. So possibly all numbers before 165410 were allocated from 0 or 1 or 1000 etc... upto 165409 in 1954/1955. Possibly checking a radio or TV serial may shed light. They didn't put serial numbers on lenses as far as I know.
I doubt all numbers were actually used as they did seem to batch allocate numbers.
So yes, devices were allocated numbers in volumes. An Eumig 824 would have a batch of 10,000 (6527031 to 6537030) sequential numbers allocated, following that, a Bolex SP80 Special would be allocated 1000 sequential numbers (from 6537031). Other devices would be allocated numbers and the back to the 824 again until it ceased production. The last number in a batch +1 would start the next batch. There were also small batches of 30 or 100 or just 4 in the case of specials. It's very possible that a higher serial number device was built before the lower serial as long as the individual device range remains sequential to the batch. So the first Bolex SP80 Special may have completed prior to the last 824 in the example above. But don't know for sure.

Here is a populated list from 1955 to 1975.

See if your device compares well with the information in the list. Any errors, post.

            1975 to 1981 to come...

If you check eumig.at you'll find cross reference to aid identifications. "rl" RevueLux or Revue and Lux being part of the model. The list includes Projectors and Cine Cameras as well as other devices.

Van Eck is also a source of information and of course, Google (search engines) and eBay.

So my Eumig S824 Sonomatic HQS serial number 7449451 was manufactured in 1978 according to Stuarts list. 44 years later it still looks and runs like new. What a great projector!

awesome those updates help very much!

and yes they have started with serial 001. I have an Eumig P1 from 1931, the first year they made filmprojectors and it has number 381, thats it!. for the P1 they counted two serial number because the standard projector had a number and when you bought it with a motor, the motor extension has it's own serial number. in this case 457. the standard version was hand cranked

and having moren then 200 eumig products i noticed very ealry, even before i had the list that the numbers only added up and did not start at 0 with every new model

I suspect their very first products from 1919 to 1931 (lighters and electrical equipment) were not numbered.

Would that suggest the P1 possibly batch numbers from 001 to 400 and the motor 401 to 600. Maybe not making as many motors as projectors!

Nice having an early P1 and from 1931 a significant year for Eumig projector manufacturer.

As usual, things haven't gone to plan, meaning 76-81 is still in production!

However, I can attach the source material for both year groups. 1955 to 1975 in this post (attachment limit). In the next post, 1976 to 1981.

Each PDF is hand written. 1 may look like a 7, 7 like a 2. Is it a 0 or partial 6. But they are readable once understood.

On the top of the page is written Serial No. From To. Stk is short for Pcs, Pieces. Gerät; Device. So those are the columns. At the end is the device reference number XXX YYYY/V V. V is like a version number. XXX is possible the device Family and YYYY a variation.

There are also side notes denoted with x or xx or O.

The blanks are unknown! Jason has helped fill one 5347944 to 5366943 with his Bolex.

That brings me to Manufacture. Not all in the list are manufactured by Eumig. Some may be manufacture on Eumig's behalf and branded Eumig. The rest are manufactured by Eumig and branded Eumig or other such as; Revue Lux, Bolex, Prinz, Porst and GAF etc...

Eumig.at can assist in identifying devices and of course Van Eck and eBay.

And here are the following 10 to 16. Making the list complete from 1955-1981.

These can help cross reference my values and interprtations.

Using Open Office spread sheet allows for input checks.

The serials are consecutive from the first value of 165410. The spread sheet can then be used with the input of the "Serial No. To" value to generate a "Stk" value and a next "From" value. These can then be used to double check.
Quantity is inclusive, so I added 1 to the equation. The From is your input plus 1.

It might, but it's very speculative to designate definite numbers on the machines made from 1931 to 1955. the total production numbers are somewhat known of those early years.

I am in the process but as I'm sloooowing down somewhat. I'll attach what I have so far.

The ODS is open office format. (Remove .txt extension)
The CSV is a basic column data for inport. Comma separated. (Remove .txt extension)
The PDF is just a clear text.

Some cameras are dummy from what I gather.
Translations should be easy from German.

Eumig.at will show products you can associate with a device.

I haven't completed the model code. Remember the version may change. V553 have several versions.

Please double check Eumig as manufacture. I've probably put Eumig when Bolex or other is correct. For example 800 and Sound.

I've deliberately removed any spaces from model but kept to the original as close as possible.
