  • Chinon 3000GL

I've recently bought a Chinon 3000GL cheap and wondering if there is any bulb conversions on the market as the original bulbs cost a fortune. Any help would be appreciated to get this to work on a cheaper alternative. Thanks

There are plug in modules that fit early Bell & Howell projectors, refer to the photo below. You could post a photo of your lamp area so others here could help. Sometimes you can use various parts to make a bracket that would convert your machine to use modern halogen bulbs. Here's a link to various modules sold on eBay.

Just saw this Chinon 3000 GL on YouTube (see link below). This projector appears to have a modern halogen bulb. I assume yours has an older style, or maybe the "spaceman" bulb used in many older machines. Maybe your best bet is to find an updated version 3000 GL with the halogen bulb?

Oh, it really uses that hard-to-find CXL spaceman lamp.

Considering the (lack of ) historical/artistic value of this projector, it would be a good candidate for some experimental/extreme modification for the lamp substitution. Yes, I'm thinking about playing around with LED conversion, for example.

I just realized, after posting the YouTube link, there were two versions of this machine. The 3000 GL, and the IQ 3000 GL. The GL being the later version with the 100 watt halogen bulb. The one in the link above is the later upgrade.

Thanks guys. I'm stuck in London working until Friday evening. I will try and post some more photos at the weekend of the area where the bulb seats. Yes it's the bulb which some refer to as the spaceman bulb. Thanks
