  • Projectors on countdown

With one or two new releases on Super 8 and Super 8 blooming, well a bit anyway if you are loaded, what can be done about our ancient projectors. Looking at the myriad of faults posted regarding members machines it is apparent that these projectors only have a limited life ahead of them. Spares are available for some parts but by no means all. Many members resort to bulking up by owning many machines, others by breaking up faulty machines to repair others, but ultimately we are going to need new Super 8 projectors.

I can’t see any companies being bothered with the limited market.

Does anyone know if any company has ever expressed an interest in producing new machines?

Remember Kodak's abortive attempts to bring out a new Super 8 camera? 😥

I am still a bit upset about this to be honest. I was one of the many who pledged money to help them. I remember picking a rewards that would have included one cart of color reversal. Many online over the years have loathed at Ferrania! They kept making excuses as to why they could not produce color reversal, etc, etc, etc.
Then came Kodak's announcement for returning Ektachrome to the Super 8 market. At that point I was like OK awesome, now I can shoot color reversal again, and project in magnificent colors! So basically most of us said the heck with Ferrania. The only thing they ever released, as far as I know, was some dumpy black and white still film, yippy LOL! That's my rant for tonight LOL!

Although Super8 gauge is now considered to be on "revival", but the momentum seems to be NOT enough to get new projectors/cameras to be made.

Some "toy" projectors, yes. Real projectors?, nope.

For the time being there are enough old models out there that can be serviced/repaired or broken down for parts, in order to keep the hobby running. There are also replacement parts being made by various individuals. I think the problem in the long run will be not so much the mechanical side of things but specialist parts like magnetic soundheads, I know they can be relapped at a certain point in their life but as far as I know they cannot be refurbished once they have worn out
