Self-timer shutter release for 8mm movie cameras

Does anyone know of the existence of a self-timer shutter release that would work for a Bolex 8mm camera (C8/B8/D8L, etc.)? I do see mechanical self-timer shutter releases for 35mm still cameras, but not sure if I can use that because it looks like once the time is reached, it shoots out a little piece of metal to trigger the shutter and then that metal piece retracts again. For something to work with a movie camera, I need it to shoot out a piece of metal and keep that metal there in place for the duration of the scene. Now that I think about it, it sounds like there would need to be two timers set - one as to when it will trigger - and the other as to how long it will film for.

OK, nevermind. I have found the answer to my question. It turns out that Bolex made an accessory that does exactly this! Thanks everyone.

Fotunately the Bolex standard 8 cameras took the standard cable release. You do not have to buy the genuine artical. A firm produced several clockwork units under the brand name AUTOKNIPS. Depending on what you are filming a locking cable release or bulb release may suffice

Yeah, after I wrote this, I bought one online. It seems to work great, but I just haven't gotten around yet to trying it with real film.

Oh wow - thanks for the recommendation. I just looked at one of these Hama mechanical self-timer releases on eBay right now. Great to know more about other brands that made this device too.

There have also been similar products from Agfa and an East German company (sorry, I forgot the exact name). Unfortunately, they have sometimes reused the names from self-timers for still photography and later reused the names for self-timers for S8-cameras with electrical remote release. Hence (as for the Hama 5405) you’ll have to be extra careful when checking the order number or model number.
