GS 1200 sound questions

Hello everyone. Has anyone with GS1200 had these issues, and what was the proper repair method?

Track 2 sound issues. Ear piercing very loud squeal / feedback sound.

Track 2 on aux output (mini plug) starts out good, then after a few minutes drops dead.

Anything I can check or do I need a technician?

Hi Chip,

Often the squealers and the silent ones can can be fixed just by working switches, especially ones that don't get used often like record keys and audio jacks (These often contain switches activated by the presence of a plug.)

Sometimes it's not so simple. I have an ST-1200HD that had channel 2 break into a squeal, and the fix came down to replacing the pre-amp IC on the sound board. The IC is obsolete, but I found it on E-Bay. I work with a lot of professional electronics people, so a friend a lot more talented at soldering than me changed the IC during lunch one day at an industrial grade soldering station.

-and of course there is no reason it has to be just that. I made a guess and won that time. (I've lost a few here and there too...). It's just that Work gets a little touchy about seeing a movie projector hooked up to one of their oscilloscopes during working hours!

Let's hope the switch trick works for you. All told, I lost use of that machine for several months.

Thanks Steve. Very good information. I will let you know how it turns out AFTER some time because opening up the back of a GS1200 is easy. Going further is a challenge.
