Who can remember getting the Derann news letter?. I did for many years, the sad part, is that I threw out almost all of them after Derann closed. I still have a couple of newsletters that survived the big clean out. One of them included this page. I liked the idea of Derann getting more involved in CGI films.

Last night I did run a 800ft reel which included "Gone Nutty" "For The Birds" and "Madagascar Penguins A Christmas Caper" those three are outstanding in picture quality and have a very good stereo track.

My last film on that reel, although not CGI was "Wallace and Gromit" again a outstanding print with a good mono track.

Anyway here is a wee blast from the past . The screen shots are from a past screening

Graham, I also have the Madagascar Penguins Christmas Caper, and as you say the picture is stunning, in fact it looks almost like 35mm. I have never seen such deep blacks, rich color, and superb sharpness. The stereo is good too, but I did a re-record anyway and improved on the original Derann recording.

My Christmas Caper has low sound, but still good sound: all I need to do to make it right is twist the volume knob some more.
I have all of those except Final Flight of the Osiris and even pushing 20 years old they are still great viewing.

I have been fortunate with the sound on Christmas Caper its good. I did screen the 35mm to compare it to the 8mm the other night, Paul you are certainly right the Super8 print is very close indeed to the 35mm, its certainly very good

Steve would it be worth asking Paul if he would be willing to do a re-record for you, just a thought.

One other CGI Super8 film I got many moons ago through the Derann second hand list, but not a Derann release, was this one below. The image is not as good as the Derann prints but its still ok.
