  • Regular and Super 8 - Difference

    Hi
I recently acquired a Ilford Elmo FP-C project along with some films - I know the projector can run both Regular and Super 8 films, the films I have do not say if they are Regula or indeed Super 8 - is there an obvious way to tell the difference

    Kind regards
    John B

Regular 8 or standard 8mm, has the larger sprocket area.

And for a quick reference here's a nice chart showing the differences between the two. Also remember Regular 8 will be on a reel with a smaller opening in the center. A Super 8 reel will have a larger center hub. Although, people have been known to swap reels, so it pays to look at the film first, before deciding which format you're about to play.
