  • Dracula rarity?!

I always like it when I see something that I have not seen before. There is a Marketing Films version of the 1979 Dracula film. I had only seen this as the 1x400ft and the more common 2x400ft, by Universal Films super 8, but I never had heard of a specific Marketing Films version? Is this a separate edit of this film, different from the Universal Films version, or is it one and the same?

I can't see a Marketing release on the Super 8 database but as they show a Picalo films German version I would wonder why Marketing would also do one. I doesn't say if the Picalo version is the same as the Universal 8 one, unfortunately.

I always thought Marketing only issued films from Paramount.

I wonder if, perhaps, the seller may have " made" a Marketing Films box and this might be a Universal 8 digest in all actuality. Note:. I am not saying that this seller is trying to rip off anyone. It is only conjecture.

          Osi,

None of my Marketing catalogs show a version of the Frank Langella Dracula. As Brian said, Piccolo did release a number of German language Universal 8 cutdowns, including the 2x400' Dracula.

Maybe the words in the description are confusing: last year I bought the U8-release with the producer in the beginning and the description on eBay said „it’s more of a marketing reel than a real cutdown“. And it is…! So this had nothing to do with „marketing-film“-Germany,

Yes that was the 1x400ft with the introduction from the (now recently deceased) producer IIRC.

Here is a link to the eBay ad.
It appears to indicate it might be a Dracula promo as the seller says it contains scenes not in the Universal release.

Ahh, yes, that's the auction. Thanks 4 posting that link. It just appears that the seller is assuming that it's Marketing Films.

It is in the type of box Universal 8 normally used as well. Though that may not be the orignal.

I think it is the Universal 400 digest.

The "Title" sticker on the box in the eBay picture is the kind that was included with U-8 releases. Strangely enough, the not quite 400' promo (it has a running time of 13:10) was also released in scope.
