If I remember correctly, the rollers are mounted in a pivot on a metal frame, and the mounting on the main chassis has slotted mounting holes such that you can loosen the screws, maneuver the assembly around to improve contact, and tighten them down again.

Ethan, I take it you are pushing the Yellow rewind lever down when selecting reverse to rewind the film. I have never really seen an issue with rewinding on the ST1200 range of machines.

That’s correct. I tried out 3 of them to date and all 3 had fairly weak rewind functions.

Just giving an update.
the shutter wheel belt was glued at least in 90% of the diameter. After one movie, it stated coming of. Not sure if the glue was too old or what not, but I am giving up on this belts.

chaning the counter belt took about 1 hour.

I want to buy a spare set of 3 belts, but I can’t find this combination. The guy on eBay is selling the 3 set for the 1200D model. Does anyone know if they are identical?

also, stupid question - how do I attach the reels with the small center holes to the projector:

The reels with the small diameter holes are for Regular-8 film and the ST-1200 can't play these films. You should be able to compare these to Super-8 and see a pretty distinct difference in sprocket hole size.

I had to find the gaps in my own cement and place some there. As a matter of fact, I still check it here and there. The other day I brought mine back into service after some time off: the first thing I did was rotate the shutter with the inching knob and prod that belt looking for loose spots. (Everything was OK.)

As the spools are for regular 8 (standard 8 or just 8mm) are the films also the same?
Here is a picture showing the difference between regular 8 and Super 8. Note that the perforations are quite different.
Your projector will not run regular 8.
