Selling directly to consumers to bypass resellers is kind of suicide mission. No wonder Kodak went bankrupt.
Even in today's internet buying directly from Airline website is not always cheaper than those from online travel agents (booking.com, govoyages, flightscanner, etc)
Wow. Just proves resellers do mark up the price quite a bit! I forgot what I paid for film in the late 70s and early 80s, but I think it was under $10 per cartridge. Things have certainly changed!
Resellers surely have to mark up.. otherwise how they can survive. In normal business system, a 30-40% mark up is normal. So when they make a sort of clearing discount by offering 25% off... they actually still make a little money.
The main problem now is Kodak sells at no difference price to resellers and consumers. This is a weird marketing strategy.
Today, we buy vinyls (LP/Record) at record stores for around $25-30, while at reseller price is $15-18 and the cost of production is around $10. This is to see if you want to keep a business sustain.
