The surfacing of a great color copy of this on eBay UK, makes me think of a long latent topic of interest. The Derann print of Forbidden planet is a flat print, apart from the titles, but from what I remember, some super 8 company or person was in the process of releasing a scope feature of this, but it was never officially released, but I think that there were a limited number of prints struck, and a few may have actually made it into collectors hands. If anyone has any info on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Osi found this on the old forum
I was at an early BFCC that was held at (I believe) Westminster library (1981/82) and Dr. van Tettering head of Animex who brought out the Cineavision proportionally reduced 8mm scope prints. He was their to pick up the package movie of the year award (again, I believe it was for "2001: A Space Oddysey"), he gave a small speech, in very good English, and he seemed a very nice man, and enthusiastic for 8mm scope prints, this was when we learned he was asking M.G.M. about releasing "Forbidden Planet", sadly within a few months he had died, and the company died with him, although Kempski took up the release of 8mm scope prints, but never in the Cineavision process, which was a lot dearer. Ah those were the days!

In a post from 2006, Eberhard Nuffer wrote:
"In fact, four full-length Cineavision prints were struck of "Forbidden Planet" before Dr. van Tetering passed away and Animex Inc. closed down. I know this for sure, as a member of this forum is the proud owner of one of these four prints. The number of four prints might be due to the printing process with four super-8 copies being printed side by side on specially perforated 35mm film stock (called "4x8S"). So the four prints can be considered "test prints". Afterwards, "Forbidden Planet" was just available in flat prints from Red Fox and later Derann."

Alan, I can verify that they did release a few on low fade. Well, OK, I don't know if it was officially released as an Animex/ Cineavision release, but I have the Cineavision scope feature of Star Wars, not the Derann release of Star Wars, and it is certainly in the Cineavision process, and I have verified that it was printed on LPP, but then, a Cineavision feature of Empire Strikes Back was done, as I used to have it, but sadly, THAT one was on Kodak SP, and sadder still the blacks were already a lovely shade of dark brown.
