  • What 8mm/16mm projectors are made in US and UK?

As per title what 8mm (or 16mm) projectors are genuinely made in US and UK?

By genuinely means not the re-branded ones.

    US:
    1. Bell & Howell
    2. Kodak
    3 ...

    UK:
    1. .....
    2. .....

    Thanks for your help.

    Cheers,
    Winbert

        UK 8mm/S8:
Haking (mainly known under their brand name „Halina“)

There are a few more British 8mm-/16mm-projectors. But I forgot their names.

Even though there are viewers etc. for „all“ formats that are made in the UK, the camera- and projector-production was mainly focused on 9.5mm.

Halina were made in "British Hong Kong".

I know. And when Haking advertised their „Halina“-devices as „Empire Made“, they never stated whether they meant the Chinese Empire or the British.

Canon made in the USA? Are you sure for that as I only knew Canon was a Japanese brand.

There are one or two Italian S8-projectors that have been sold as „Canon“ by Canon in Europe. And some of their S8-cameras, e.g. some 310xl, are made in China (to be precise: in „RoC“).
But I haven’t heard of any Canon-projectors that are „Made in USA“, too.

                    Thanks for the info Joerg...

Just to get clearier info RoC is Taiwan. PRC is China. This means Canon once moved their 310xl line of production to Taiwan.

So still need the info if Canon was made in the USA.

Well, the camera only says „RoC“ (as it’s the official English abbreviation of the official English name of the country). It doesn’t state whether it was made on Formosa, on one of the Penghu-Islands or another part of the RoC. So I cannot say whether „Taiwan“ is correct.

I've noticed that the best projectors were not made stateside. Most of the U.S. projectors are mostly only workmanlike but barely passable. My opinion.

Yes. Kodak made 16mm and 8mm way back long before the war. But probably Japanese imports eventually killed them off in later years

I forgot to list the 16mm sound GeBescope projectors made from 1933 by British Acoustic Films and distributed by GB Equipments.
At the end of the war GB Equipments entered into a 25 year agreement with Bell & Howell to produce in 16mm and 8mm, both projectors and cameras. They are known as GB-Bell & Howell.
When the agreement finished Rank (Now owners of GB) turned to German Bauer who produced the Rank Aldis (which was based on their P7 model). Aldis who made slide projectors was now in the Rank empire. A great projectors of which I have two.
