  • Eumig Mark 8 Noisy Take-Up Clutch.

One for our resident Eumig experts!

I have a friends Eumig Mark 8 which hasn't been used in some years. I've sorted out the usual culprits such as the slipping motor disc drives.

Now taking it for a test run all seems well except for the rear take-up clutch which is making a grinding noise when under tension.

Take up torque is fine but examining the take up clutch assembly, it seems that the felt lining is disintegrating. Reminds me of Beaulieu!

Anyone know if this is an easy fix? If I unscrew the tensioner all the way, does it just come apart? If so, what could be used to replace the felt? Or could just cleaning it up help?

    Any ideas appreciated!

Dismantled quite easily and found the felt washer coated with hardened grease. Gave it a gentle wash in detergent and dried it. The rest of the grease on the clutch assembly was old but ok.

    Now all works great.

Easy fix thank goodness! Could probably do with a degrease and replacement grease, plus a new felt washer, but it all works smoothly for now.
