It has arrived

Repackaged Kodak Tri-X from Pro 8mm. First roll of Super 8mm film I’ve bought since 1987. I feel like I did after buying my very first camera and film when I was a 15 year old kid! I’m so excited!

This is just going to be a “test” to see how my camera (Yashica Super 40) handles it. I may even take few shots with that first camera I bought new in 1979. I don’t recall the exact model offhand, but it’s a cheap “point and shoot” Chinon. Either way, this is going to be so much fun! ❤️

Dave, be sure to use a ND filter outdoors on a sunny day. I would also shoot this stock using the cameras auto-exposure. Also be sure to disengage the camera's internal #85 orange filter. This stock looks better without this filter in the path. I once shot a cart of Tri-X with the orange filter in place and it made many of the scenes dark with less contrast.

Would an ND8 (3 stops) be suitable for most occasions?

I would say yes! I use a 2 stop ND filter that works well on sunny days, when I'm filming with Ektachrome 100D (7294) color reversal. A lower f-stop will yield sharper images when you're projecting your movies. I find F 16-22 gives lots of refraction on sunny days. Once you get around F 8-11 things improve on screen.

It’s November and I STILL haven’t shot any footage on the Tri-X! At least I did get a ND filter for the camera. So busy. I’m now in the process of moving to Vermont, so I may eventually have better nature shots when I get settled in and have time to actually use my camera. In the meantime, the film is safely stored in my refrigerator.
