Bent plastic reels

I have a quite a few empty reels that have been incorrectly stored by the previous owners which has caused them to slightly bend inwards. I was thinking about cutting a few pieces of heat resistant material with a thickness of 8mm, put these inside the reels and then heat the plastic reel with a hair dryer to get it in the right shape again. Has anyone else ever tried this?

John, I made a video a while back that might be helpful with your reels. This doesn't work well with some plastics but it's worth a try.
