The non-coaxial Eumig 501D silent sprocketless projector had similar, if not worse, problems with steadiness at end of reels.

I am in total agreement with Paul. The idea of designing and building a projector without a feed sprocket is crazy as all of the stress is put onto the film by the claw. As Paul has said, once the film has passed the halfway mark on the feed reel, the back tension increases as it gets nearer to the hub, causing more strain on the sprocket holes.
This is a s906 that I rescued some years back from my local recycling centre. It looked so sad and lonely laying on the ground in the rain, so I decided to give it a new home.
The metal spring strap with the roller attached on the top is there to reform the top loop, which puts even more strain on the sprocket holes, as this is trying to pull the film upwards at the same time of the claw pulling the film down.
Whilst I had this machine apart I was curious to see if the chassis on these models could of had a feed sprocket fitted, and the answer is no, but I discovered something that sums it all up.
After removing the two small screws I found out that the majority of this plastic assembly is held on with what I can only describe as a cross between mastic and blu tack. It looks like something out of a Ken Russell Movie.
I was a teenager when these 900 series were released, and I always remember I wanted one as they looked the business, but looks can be deceptive.
I ended up with a S 912 GL and regretted it. In order to purchase it I had traded in my trusty old S 710 D, there was no build quality to it, just plastic.
I guess we live and learn.
