  • Favorite Black & White Films on S8?

    Greetings friends!

I've been watching a lot of B/W films as of late on Criterion (City & The Night, Sweet Smell of Success, Incredible Shrinking Man, etc...), but was curious about what feature films you have on your Super 8 collection? Any all time favorites?

    Hi Lincoln
My favorite film since I was 10 years old has been Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein and I was fortunate enough to have a very good Super 8 sound feature of it. It’s now 60 years later and I still enjoy this film. I never in a million years had thought it was released anywhere in Super 8.
I also love all the Universal Classic Horror titles and have several of them too in Super 8 and 8mm sound. But I feel most blessed to have my absolute favorite title.

MY favorite black and white S8 film is the 2 x 600ft Bogart. Yes, there are some color sections in it but its basically 90% black and white clips from Bogey's films, or should i say sepia and white since it was printed on color stock, which has now faded.
Second up, the 400ft Universal 8 print of Psycho, a great digest.

        Jim,

I love A&C Meet Frankenstein. I had a 16mm print, unfortunately I had to toss it because of VS.

        Lincoln,

My favorite B&W Super 8 feature is A Hard Day's Night. It's not the greatest print, but it is such a terrific film. Bride of Frankenstein is a close second.

Casablanca, Some Like it Hot, various Laurel and Hardy features, it's hard to nail down a specific feature! Favorite black and white cartoon? "Porky Pigs Feat", directed by Frank Tashlin, 1942.

I stand shoulder to shoulder with Doug and Osi on this one.

If someone pointed a gun at my head and said "sell all your black and white features except 2," the two remaining features would indeed be Casablanca and A Hard Day's Night.

However, the award for the best black and white print I have would certainly go to Yankee Doodle Dandy. A real stunner.
