  • What is this threaded hole for on my ST1200 please?

I've noticed a small threaded hole on the front of my Elmo ST1200 near the rewind key, anyone know what it's for please? There's nothing on the inside for anything to connect to. Click image for larger version

Hello Leonard. It's to put a scope lens holder.

      True!

I think Elmo originally meant this for a small daylight viewer, but 'Scope is a lot more fun!

Yes, the Elmo daytime viewer also attaches to that hole

The instruction manual describes the threaded hole as the accessory socket.

How far back does Super-8 anamorphic projection go? Did any of the projector manufacturers offer 'Scope options back in the day?

Correct me if I'm wrong, I've gotten the impression S8 'scope started out a British phenomenon: for example, I've never heard of a Blackhawk 'scope print.

-then again, I'd love to hear about it if there really were.

Interesting question, Steve. I have Tom & Jerry scope prints and thought they were american but I will check.

Elmo, indeed, originally put that small threaded hole to support viewers, which I forgot since I haven't used such an accessory for ages

Thank you so much Douglas, extremely informative. I didn't know such attachments existed.

I do remember a leaflet for what were then in the UK Ilford Elmo silent projectors in late 1960's/early 70's saying that several models could take ElmoScope lenses.
