  • Playing Music Along to Silent Films

    Hello,

I'm sure this is a topic that has been discussed, but did not find a thread directly speaking about it. I just received a Blackhawk print of Steamboat Bill Jr. Fully silent. I know I could stripe it and add a soundtrack, but until then, I was considering just playing music along side it. Does anyone know of a good soundtrack that is a go to for Steamboat Bill?

    Thanks!

    Hi Greg

ERK The Masters of Cinema series blu-ray that I have which includes "Steamboat Bill" does mentions the Original score by Carl Davis if that's any help. you could try searching Google under Carl Davis and see what comes up.

Greg, there is a discussion of music for silent films. I will try to find it. I do know that there is one person who released a lot of music to use for silents. Kevn MacLeod may that person. See the wiki on him at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_MacLeod

Youtube has music for silents. Here is an example:

            Hi!

You could try to play any of these videos in sync:
            https://archive.org/search?query=steamboat+bill
(The search will also pop up the pressbook from 1928.)

Here is Steamboat Bill with musical score. You can download it and extract the audio to add to your print. The poster does not mention the source of the score.
Steamboat Bill - 1928 - HD movie (Buster Keaton)
