  • Why is my Eumig Mark 501 making 'moaning' sounds... Like metal on metal????

    My Eumig Mark 501 is making 'moaning' sounds as it's playing... Sounds like metal on metal???? Or like when you wet the rim of a wine glass & run your finger around it to get it to sort of 'chime'...

    I have sneaking suspicion that some moving part of the take up reel's 'guts' needs lubrication as when my 7" table up reel is almost full; I need to help it along as it stops turning on it's own.

    Does this make any sense?

    Is there a way to check to see if it needs lubrication 'somewhere'?

    TIA everyone;
    Rudy

    Does it do that for every film? I bought a film from eBay last year and it literally squealed going through my Sankyo. I ran the film through my fingers, and it was actually sticky. Cleaned it up using FilmGuard. It was the filthiest film I have ever seen in my entire life! But after cleaning it was fine.

      Hmmmm... Well, it just started with the last 2 reels I used. but they're both about 60 years old. But what would cause the film to 'moan' or 'squeal' as you said? Plus, that wouldn't explain why my 7" makeup reel stops turning to wards the end of the film?
