As I have written earlier I have to bin many 8mm films due to VS.
Now I left with tens of plastic cases (clamshell) with original cover. I am selling them, and several popular titles have been purchased locally here (some film collectors like them to be displayed in their library, although they are not 8mm collectors).
Now I still have some cases with less popular title and was thinkering what I am gonna do with them.
So, this morning I was creatively working with them to make a new case for new title which has previously been released in 8mm. My first choice is Gladiator (2000) as I already have similar films in the same cases i.e Ben Hur, Quo Vadis, and Invahoe.
The first job need to do it to take out the original cover and apparently it was sealed, so it was not an easy job unless with cut the plastic.
I managed to do that from the bottom part and took out the original cover.
The second job is to find a good design of the movie. To create 1970s mood I searched for movie poster that was painted not kind of photograph.
Later I use the original MGM cover style as the basis of my design. For movie tagline can be found at IMDB.com as the MGM super 8mm cover has always put the tagline in that black bar on the top.
Now the problem that I found during the work is the paper size. The width of the cover was not a problem at all becuase it was exactly as the width of A4 paper, i.e 210mm (11.7") but length was the big proble. The lenght of the oiginal cover was way more than A4 (or folio paper), while my printer was a domestic ones (could handle only to max folio paper i.e 304.8 x 482.6 mm or 12" x 19").
So there was only one option, i.e to print on two pieces of paper with joining them right on the spine (so it is not seen at all).
Now this is the result:
