Sankyo Dualux 2000H slowing down when turning on the lamp

I have just picked up a Sankyo 2000H yesterday and want to use it for transfering my reels.
It's in very nice condition but I notice it slows down considerably when I switch on the lamp while the motor is already running. It's like the power supply can't cope with it. Does anyone else use this model and if so, how's yours running?

Usually the speed might drop just a bit when the lamp is on due to the increased load to the system, but 50% (or so) speed drop means something is pretty off.

Try running it with the lamp removed first, to assure that it's related to the lamp and not something else.
