PAL is an analogue system (Phase Alternate Line) not a Digital one the only digital version would be on D3 composite tapes. It is normally 50fields/second, 575 active lines so I don't understand why he would want that format.

He can accept PAL formatted video digitally but it will be down converted from 25 fps to 24 fps. His computer software that handles the printing will make adjustments if need be. I don’t know how good it does this though. I have alway provided eithe 23.98 or 24 FPS files in MP4 format and they present no problem.

Seven euros per minute - including striping and recording - is almost unbelievable! I can only assume that buying the stock in bulk makes huge difference, but it still amazes me that any profit can be made at that price.

Though it is a business for the fellow, it really is a labor of love for him. He takes incredible care in the production of prints. I have a number of "autobiographical" emails and sometime in the future, with his permission, I will do his background story and what has led to his going out of his way to actually invent his one and only process for super 8. ( one and only with his specific process, not the only source for super 8).

Osi - If you're able to tell his story at some point, I'm sure it will be fascinating reading. If he's doing the striping and the recording, as well as assembling the specialised equipment needed for printing, that shows a remarkable set of skills. I'm guessing that he may have an engineering background, but I also salute his enterprising nature and love for film.

It's interesting that Italy seems to have become the leading country for innovative services linked to 8 and 16mm films. I'm hoping the next development there will be a solution that collectors can apply to prints every 10 years of so, to halt VS!

Just one thing to remember, while I absolutely love his service and am really in awe of what this one man show can do, please understand that he is not on our time, we are on his time. What I mean by that is that if you expect to get films on a quick, timely manner, don't. He does an excellent job, but he gets them done as he is able to, but his work is well worth the wait! 😀

While Alberto does take a while, for me it’s been about 6 months to receive a striped print. It’s always worth the wait. I thought I’d give the other guy a go to see what the quality was like. 14 months later I still have no idea if I’ll ever receive anything. I’ve had hardly any information from him and to be honest it’s a waste of time.

Yes, Alberto can stripe 16 mm and record. But remember two will be an analog soundtrack. It won’t be in stereo unless you have a 16mm stereo projector which is rare. But it does sound good.
